A member of the Youth National Team and later, a member of the Canadian national team, Mikaela was born in Cambridge but was a member of the Oakville Gymnastics Club. At the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo, she placed third in the team category, and later attended UCLA on a full athletic scholarship.
